Showing the difference between an induction motor and a permanent magnet motor lets you understand why a VFD needs to run a motor learn to set the correct baseline for position control of the motor.

Tyler also goes through the basics of how magnetic fields work as well as how current moves through a wire. From there he explains how an electromagnet works by running current through a coil to create a magnetic field. PM motors are more expensive and fragile due to the low tolerance between the rotor and stator and, therefore, need to be handled with more care than an induction motor.

The topics of electromagnet polarity, AC Stator fields, rotating magnetic fields and synchronous speeds are also covered.
