Here's a short trailer on what we can expect from Alistair Gibb who will be delivering a keynote address at the World Building Congress in June 2022.

Alistair Gibb is Emeritus Professor of Construction Engineering Management at Loughborough University. His keynote address will be one of the highlights of the World Building Congress in Melbourne in late June 2022, particularly so for students and early career researchers as we have asked him to speak about his lifetime contribution to research and CIB.

He had an early career as a civil engineer, and as he describes in this conversation he applied for a job in academia through happenstance. This industry grounding has always stood him in fine stead, and has been reflected in his high profile with industry and the topics of his research, which have included nanotechnology, 3D concrete printing, offsite construction, platform technologies, transformational H&S, accident causality, and Covid-19.

In our conversation Alistair had lots of valuable advice for young engineers, students and early career researchers, and he will expand on these ‘tasters’ when he speaks in Melbourne. These included the value of engagement with academia, and different routes for doing so, and how to develop your research career post-PhD including building your own global network and profile with industry and policy-makers. If the range of issues he covered in our conversation is any guide, his keynote is one not to be missed.
