Dead Mall Citi Plaza

Описание к видео Dead Mall Citi Plaza

This dead mall's latest and current name is "Citi Plaza" located downtown London, Ontario It started as Wellington Square in 1960. In 1980, it was renamed "London Eaton's Square" with Eaton's as its anchor store. It was the first enclosed climate-controlled shopping hub, otherwise known today as a "mall".

In 1989, Campeau Corporation bought it for $175 million and expanded it calling it, "Galleria London" with Eaton's and The Bay as its anchor stores. It was now Canada's largest shopping center at the time. It took up 2 city blocks and still does bordering King Street, Clarence Street, York Street, and Dundas Street. There is a public library at the Dundas Street entrance which we did not look at today.

By 1993, the mall was 35% vacant.

In 1996, RHK Holdings acquired it for $51 million.

Eaton's and The Bay left in 2001 when only 20 stores were left open.

Citi Cards Canada leased 114,000 sq ft for offices in 2006 and it was renamed "Citi Plaza" in 2009.

Citi Cards moved out in 2016 but their name remained on the building.
