Gorges de l'Ardéche, Road D290, Ardéche, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France - by motorcycle and drone

The D290 road runs from the southeast to the northwest for about 34 km along the north side of the Ardéche gorge, connecting the villages of Saint-Martin-d'Ardéche and Vallon-Pont-d'Arc. The two villages are the entrance and exit of the Gorges de l'Ardéche. Between the villages, the river Ardéche has carved the gorge, which is up to 300 metres deep and can be viewed from numerous vantage points. The gorge and the river are very popular with canoeists. In the northwest, just before the village of Vallon-Pont-d'Arc, you will find the Pont d'Arc, a natural rock bridge about 60 metres wide, created by erosion. These parts of the gorge in particular are also very popular with bathers.

The D290 road is very well developed and easy to drive on. At the viewpoints and especially at the bathing spots in the north-west, however, you have to be aware of parked and manoeuvring cars as well as pedestrians.

The road is located in the department of Ardéche, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
