Human-elephant conflict (HEC)

In some rural parts of Sri Lanka, the threat of human-elephant conflict (HEC) is significant. In this confrontation, both people and elephants frequently lose their lives and possessions. Each year, 80 people and 250 elephants perish in Sri Lanka. The "Hakka Pattas" ( /) method of hunting is used to kill the majority of elephant calves. According to the Department of Wildlife Conservation, there are presently 7,000 elephants in the nation. More than 361 elephants were killed in 2019, according to official figures from the Department of Wildlife Conservation. More elephants have been killed in Sri Lanka than in any other country in the world.

අලි මිනිස් ගැටුම (HEC) ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ඇතැම් ග්‍රාමීය ප්‍රදේශවල විශාල තර්ජනයකි. මෙම ගැටුමේදී මිනිසුන්ට සහ අලින්ට බොහෝ විට තම ජීවිත හා දේපළ අහිමි වේ. ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ වසරකට අලි ඇතුන් 250 ක් සහ මිනිසුන් 80 ක් පමණ මිය යති. බොහෝ අලි පැටවුන් මරා දමනු ලබන්නේ "හක්කා පටාස්" (හක්කා පටාස්/හක්කා පටාස්) ලෙස හඳුන්වන දඩයම් ක්‍රමය මගිනි. වනජීවී සංරක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ නිල වාර්තාවලට අනුව 2019 වසරේ අලි ඇතුන් 361කට වැඩි ප්‍රමාණයක් මරා දමා ඇත.ශ්‍රී ලංකාව ලෝකයේ වෙනත් කිසිදු ප්‍රාන්තයකට වඩා වැඩිම අලි මරණ සංඛ්‍යාවක් අභිබවා ගොස් ඇත.
