To calculate your safe period, you'll need to track your menstrual cycle for several months and identify your fertile window. This is the time during your cycle when you're most likely to get pregnant. The "safe period" is the time outside of this fertile window. This method is also known as the calendar or rhythm method.

If your shortest cycle was 26 days and your longest was 30 days, you would:

Subtract 18 from 26: 26 - 18 = 8. The first day of your fertile window is day 8. 

Subtract 11 from 30: 30 - 11 = 19. The last day of your fertile window is day 19. 

Therefore, days 1-7 and days 20-30 (or until the start of your next period) would be considered your safe period. 

Levonorgestrel, a synthetic progestin, primarily works to prevent pregnancy by interfering with ovulation and fertilization. It can inhibit or delay the release of an egg from the ovary (ovulation) and also thicken cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to reach the egg. In some cases, it may also affect the lining of the uterus (endometrium), making it less receptive to a fertilized egg.
