America's Most Scenic Railroad in Fall of 2023: The Durango and Silverton

Hey, it's May 4th? I could make some "May the Fourth be with you" pun for Star Wars day or something... but arent I more of a Star Trek nerd? (shots fired).

Anyways, speaking of shots fired, I'm probably gonna hear it that just because USA Today keeps ranking the Durango and Silverton as America's Most Scenic Railroad... That it's somehow not... But with views like this, you be the judge.

On the eve and after the conclusion of the 100th anniversary of the K-28 class of Locomotives used on this famed railroad, we catch the 473 rolling up the railroad pulling the famed Silverton Train (cue the C.W. McCall). We catch the 473 helping out bigger sister K-37 # 493 with the extended-length train in the Cañon of the Rio de Las Animas out of Durango and under the slopes of Purgatory Ski Area as it winds its way. We venture through the Rockwood Cut and onto the High Line, areas made famous by this train in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Into Silverton we go and watch as it crosses the old wooden bridge before it's ripped out shortly after this video is produced.
