The Vedic Period of India

Around 1500 BCE, an Indo-European people, the Arya, reached the western reaches of India and began migrating into the region.

They mixed with local peoples to form a 'Vedic Culture'. This culture would gradually spread across northern India over the next millenium in the form of tribes, which would later develop into more complex kingdoms and republics.

It was in this period that basic tribal beliefs and practices flourished into the Hindu Religion, with the composition of sacred texts, such as the Vedas, Puranas, Mahabharata, and Ramayana.

The period came to an end following a centuries-long conquest by the Kingdom of Magadha, which united most of the major states by 330 BCE.
