Sunday Sermon 6/23/24

Описание к видео Sunday Sermon 6/23/24

Focus: In the parable today, we see a Pharisee and a tax collector. While it is easy to read this parable with self-righteousness as we compare ourselves to both people, it is important to simply remain dependent on God and God alone. When we pray with a sincere desire for God to change us, we are truly justified.

I. Pursuing a version of something other than the real thing (Turning Pro – Steven Pressfield)
“Shadow career” and “Shadow faith”

II. Two types of people
Pharisees and tax collectors
Psalm 18:20-24 and Psalm 51
Pharisee
Trusts in himself and misses the truth about God
Compares himself to others
Tax collector
Keeps God as the main subject
Compares himself to God

III. “Justified”
“Shown to be in the right” or “Acquitted”
Prayer doesn’t change God – it changes us
How does prayer change us?
1. it changes us into humble and grateful people
2. it changes us into those who don’t need recognition for good works
3. it changes us into people who care more about loving God and loving others
4. it changes us into disciples of Jesus

IV. Where are you? Do you see yourself as entirely dependent on God?
