After being diagnosed with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis she spent five months in near-complete isolation undergoing grueling treatment. “It was hell. But it made me realize who I am,” she says.
Today Meirinda advocates to protect the rights of people living with HIV and TB, working to ensure those who are most impacted by the two diseases are at the heart of any response to combat them.
Indonesia continues to recover from the devastating impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on the fight against TB, including through support from the Global Fund’s COVID-19 Response Mechanism.
Following a drop in the number of people identified with TB between 2019 and 2020 in Indonesia there was a 26% increase between 2020 and 2021, meaning more people across the country were able to access lifesaving treatment.
