Dr Ashrawi is a Palestinian diplomat and scholar, formerly an executive committee member of the Palestine Liberation Organization, PLO, was the first woman to hold a seat in the highest executive body in Palestine. She also served as the official spokesperson of the Palestinian delegation to the Middle East peace process.
The Durham Miners Association stands in solidarity with Dr Ashrawi and the Palestinian people.
