In general, for reactive shooting, it is best to shoot with both eyes open for better visual processing and peripheral vision, IF, you can process information quickly without interference from either eye. This is because visual abilities are very different from individual to individual as well as within the same individual in different light conditions or simply over time as we age and our eyes change.

Initially, when keeping both eyes open, you may get a “double vision” effect of seeing two sets of either sights or targets depending on where you focus. Ideally, through visual training, the brain can learn to “sort out” the correct picture with whichever eye you are going to process the sights with and ignore the second image from the other eye.

It is disappointing to listen to some trainers telling their students to keep both eyes fully open as they follow the training recipe book they took it from without understanding the visual abilities of their students in the first place.
In actual practice, depending on individual vision in each eye, certain light conditions, or how you are focusing on the sights, it may be difficult to keep both eyes fully open without interference from the other eye. In this case, a slight squint or more may be required with the non-dominant eye in order to process the information quickly.
