ACADEMIC PROJECT
This video is the presentation used for the delivery of the project -
In this project, a text was assigned to a group of 5 people, and with this text, the group had to create a book, necessarily in A4 format, and it had to be produced by them without the use of professionals. This object had to be discussed with the client throughout its creation in order to align with their ideas.
This object stands out as a coffee table book, characterized not only as something to be read but to be appreciated and displayed, integrating into spaces as a piece of art. The cover serves as a first glimpse into the more traditional values. It acts as an introduction, paving the way for what will unfold in the following pages of the book. However, as one flips through the pages of this object, this cover will acquire a new meaning, enriching the narrative experience.
In order to capture the timeless essence of Gucci, we wanted to offer a sort of immersive experience that showcases the passage of time alongside fashion. Graphically and narratively, this object unfolds into five chapters, each exploring a unique facet of the brand. Despite the non-linearity in the organization of the book, as we intertwine different contents, we emphasize the importance of chronology and order. At the beginning of each chapter, we introduce a timeline bar associating each individual with the year of their entry into Gucci. This feature aims to provide a clear understanding of the brand's distinct periods, even though we have adopted a non-linear approach.
From a broader perspective, the cover not only assumes a purely decorative role but also a meaning of its own. We sought to extend these concepts to the cover itself, where we juxtaposed contemporary elements, such as the solid and modern color of Gucci, with a historical pattern of the brand, the 1966 Gucci Floral Silk Scarf pattern. The cover, thus, emerges as a vivid example of how the two facets explored throughout the book can converge. In the context of the rest of the content, the cover surpasses its merely aesthetic function, transforming into a representation that encapsulates the evolutionary essence of Gucci.
