The recent attempts on his life underscore the challenges he faces as Burkina Faso's leader. In the latest incident, gunfire was reported near the presidential residence. Meanwhile, protesters gathered at a central roundabout in Ouagadougou, pledging their support for President Traore's government.
Protesters reported that gunfire was heard near the presidential residence earlier in the afternoon. In response to these threats on his life, Traore has decided to enhance security and increase military spending, with support from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

There are several factors driving Treoray's decision to bolster security in Burkina Faso. His intention to distance himself from the US and France has led him to seek stronger alliances to fortify his country.

Additionally, Treoray has faced criticism from Western nations, which led him to suspend the BBC and Voice of America radio stations due to their coverage of a Human Rights Watch report on alleged mass killings by the country's military. Human Rights Watch reported that the army was responsible for over 223 deaths in areas accused of collaborating with militants, including 56 minors. In May, Burkina Faso's military leaders received a new batch of military drones from Turkey as part of their counter-terrorism support. According to a statement from the presidency in Ouagadougou and regional press sources, the Burkinabe army received at least two Akinji drones and three TB2 drones. The shipment included approximately 12 drones of both the Akinji and TB2 models, manufactured by Turkish company Baker Technologies, which provides military and aerospace technologies.

Meanwhile, Iran’s ambassador to Burkina Faso, Mijtaba Fikei, met with the country’s foreign minister to discuss expanding cooperation in areas such as economy, science, culture, and technology. The discussion included Burkina Faso’s participation in Iran Expo 2024 and the strengthening of bilateral trade and economic relations. The foreign minister of Burkina Faso noted the growing commercial and economic ties between Tehran and Ouagadougou.
At the conference, it was agreed that the foreign ministries of both nations would instruct the relevant organizations to follow up on the agreements made at the inaugural joint economic, scientific, cultural, and technological commission.

Traore is leaving no detail unattended in his efforts. Other African leaders have expressed their dissatisfaction with Treori after he criticized older, power-driven presidents, whom he accused of being Western puppets responsible for Africa's deepening poverty and despair.
