Sapporo, founded in 1876, is the oldest brand of beer in Japan. As Sapporo has grown over the years and purchased many smaller breweries, it also started brewing the beer under license abroad to save on transportation costs. The company purchased Canadian Sleeman Breweries in 2006, which now brews the majority of the Sapporo found in North America. As well as breweries in California and Virginia.

Has this beer lost its special appeal now that it's no longer a treat from a far off land, and just a regular mass produced macro lager?
