The first stone of the Princess Juliana Tower was laid on April 15, 1910. The name of the watchtower was quickly chosen thanks to the birth of Princess Juliana almost a year earlier.

The watchtower was 24 meters high and from above you had a beautiful view over the woods and heaths of the Veluwe. Partly thanks to this beautiful view, the restaurant next to the Juliana Tower was called “Belvedère” (beautiful view).

In 1942, during the Second World War, the Germans claimed the Juliana tower. As a result, the name “princess” had to be removed and the watchtower was given the name “Julia Toren”. The watchtower was of course a perfect lookout for the Germans. However, because the trees continued to grow, they soon had to build a floor on top.

In 1965, the watchtower came into the hands of the municipality, which sold the tower to the Kreekel family, who owned the Prins Bernard Dal amusement park dating from 1937.

Prince Bernard Dal was located a bit lower at the bottom of the mountain and had found himself in a difficult situation due to municipal regulations. Due to expropriation of the parking spaces, half of the terraces had to be demolished to create new terraces. Unfortunately, this was not feasible and Prince Bernard Dal was closed in 1966. In 1969 the building was demolished and the attractions moved to the Queen Juliana Tower.

Meanwhile, the “old” Queen Juliana Tower is better known under the name Children's amusement park Julianatoren. Named for the tower that stands in the middle of the attractions.
