Topic: Russia-EU Energy War: How Gazprom is blackmailing the EU with gas to launch Nord Stream 2

Another gas blackmail of the European Union by Russia's Gazprom to launch Nord Stream 2 (NSP2) is unfolding.

The chronology of events is as follows.

On June 14, Gazprom said that Nord Stream (PP1) gas pumping was reduced by 40% because of delayed repair of a German Siemens gas pumping unit carried out in Canada.

Germany asked Canada to return the unit to Gazprom.

But the very next day Gazprom said that because of the stoppage of another Siemens unit it would again reduce the pumping volumes.

As a result from the existing 167 million cubic meters per day, Gazprom supplies 67 million cubic meters per day via PP1. This is less than half of the pipeline capacity.

Gas TSO of Ukraine offered to replace the volumes of transit which are not pumped by PP1.

But already on June 16, Gazprom did not take shelter. The head of the monopoly Alexei Miller said that there would be no resumption of transit volumes in the near future: "there is no solution to the problem". And if the EU wants gas, it should launch BCP2.

On June 15th the European companies OMV from Austria, Eni from Italy and Uniper from Germany were notified by Gazprom that they would reduce the volume of their gas supplies despite their contractual obligations.
