Tavis Smiley reflected on the status of African Americans 20 years after the release of his book "The Covenant with Black America." Highlighting significant individual achievements, such as Barack Obama's presidency and Kamala Harris's vice presidency, Smiley lamented the persistent economic disparities faced by the Black community. He argued that while there have been notable progressions, these are overshadowed by the collective lag in all leading economic indicators. Delving deeper, Smiley described the U.S. democracy as an unfinished experiment, asserting that despite individual successes, Black Americans remain economically disadvantaged.
