I'm gonna rip off the bandage right now and tell you that I'm not posting a Mission:Black FC tomorrow, so this is it. To soften the blow, I'll give you two consolation prizes. Then, I'll make sure to cover this FC in more detail since it is quite a bit harder than the rest of the FCs that I've posted from the setlist.

First, just for the hell of it, I did FC Mission:Black on medium. The medium PS2 chart is also what you get if you play the Wii version of this game, by the way. The insane chart you're thinking of does not come with the Wii port, which is probably a good thing.

And second, I'll share with you all my current best run on the hard chart of Mission:Black, which is a 94% attempt. I have spent more time than I'm willing to admit practicing this stupid chart and the 94% is the culmination of my efforts. It is technically possible that I could do better than this run, but I do not think a drastic improvement will happen unless we discover some sort of breakthrough or new strategy that makes the chart less obtuse.

Okay, so "Meat Your Maker" sounds awful and takes forever to get going, so that's not a great start. There's two initial sweeps at 0:32 with that trademark Broadsword nonsense spacing to get us going. Then they hit us with their beloved weird wrapping during the descending bit at 1:01. Things actually pick up at 1:15, though. For one, the speed kicks into action, but also, any GRYOBY pattern leads to hand awkwardness, and there's a lengthy trill at 1:26 to cap it off that's super easy to drop a note on. sometimes without even noticing. A strummed fast trill with no coyote timing is a recipe for disaster.

That trill and the bit before it suck, but the main part to watch out for actually comes next. 1:37 gives that looming feeling of dread for what 1:44 inevitably brings. Yeah, honestly, it's all about 1:44. There's a sweep in the outro that you could choke, but realistically, 1:44 is the reason why this FC is such a pain. Getting that part to hit took many attempts, and this was after I'd already FC'd the rest of the game, so I was pretty well-acquainted with the engine by that point. The pattern is weird, it comes at a much higher speed than almost anything else on the disc, it sucks that it's all strums, and the wrapping throws you off right as you're getting into the groove.

Also, and I'm not sure whether I've mentioned this yet, but it's kind of hard to tell when you miss sometimes in this game. I thought I FC'd this song three times before I actually got it because I didn't see or hear any indication I'd dropped a note. That's a super frustrating side effect of the solos: you can't play them in Winning Streak, so it's really hard to tell if a note slips by until you hit the end and only receive 99% instead of the illustrious 100% for your hard work.
