Ornate Sunbird Nest - Nature in Singapore's Concrete jungle

Nature is all around us!

This is an Ornate Sunbird nest. It was built at a Bedok North HDB (public housing) resident's potted plant at the HDB corridor right next to a lift lobby. Fortunately, this resident is a big animal lover and doesn't disturb the nest.

Unfortunately, this story ends tragically, the 2 sunbird chicks in the nest didn't make it. What I heard from residents and the estate cleaner was:

One day, there was a heavy rain and strong wind. The rain went all the way to the HDB resident's door. The nest got flooded and the chicks sadly drowned. There were ants seen going into the nest for the next 2 days after that, proving that the chicks died.

Also, some inconsiderate neighbour (old woman) went to disturb the nest (which other neighours stopped) multiple times. Although the woman was stopped each time, the damage was done.
