We will show you how to use
the 1.25-millimeter CleanClicker 750 to clean LC connectors.
Along with the CleanClicker,
we will demonstrate some of the other tools you will find
in a Sticklers Fiber Optic Cleaning Kit.
Contaminated connections are the leading cause of failure
in a fiber network.
Never assume a connector is clean,
and even a brand new cable assembly should be inspected
and cleaned before it is added to a network.
To start your cleaning process, ready the CleanClicker
by twisting the housing slightly from Lock to Clean.
Always clean both ends of a connector pair at the same time,
right before you mate them to diminish cross contamination.
We recommend that you clean the connectors
inside the adaptor first,
and then move to the cable assembly side.
Pull the end cap off your CleanClicker
and place it in the slot at the end of the handle.
Insert the barrel into the adaptor
and push the CleanClicker all the way in
until you feel it bottom out.
You will hear a click when it is fully engaged.
Here we inspect a connector
fresh out of the supplier packaging.
The inspection scope shows
that this one has a lot of oil residue.
Moving the end cap to the handle end,
insert the cleaner into the port and push it all the way in
until you feel and hear it fully engage.
We'll reinspect it with the inspection scope
to see how well the cleaner did.
The inspection results show
that the cleaner did a really good job taking the oil off
as you see in the low-resolution image.
Click on Analyze to check these results
against IEC standards.
You'll see that this inspection passed.
This area is the contact region,
and the area that must be cleaned.
The scratches and debris outside this contact area
don't impact the optical performance.
Once the connector pair is mated,
the contact force is strong enough
that you don't have to worry
about particle migration or residue.
Let's take a look at an LC jumper
that has been swiped against jeans.
Looking at it under the microscope,
you will see the contamination
after it was rubbed against those jeans.
There are some dust and residue that could be skin oil
or traces of fabric softener.
Close up, you can see debris in the fiber area
and dust around the periphery.
Let's clean this up now.
With the end cap back on the barrel and the cap open,
take the connector and insert the ferrule
into the end cap opening.
Give it one firm push and you're done.
Using the microscope to check this end-face,
the area now looks clean.
Let's run the analysis and check it to the IEC standard.
This shows we passed on the first cleaning.
The 1.25-millimeter CleanClicker is a very effective tool
and will remove connector end-face contamination
at least 90 percent of the time.
You may find heavily soiled connector end-faces
in an outdoor pedestal,
or one that's been neglected for a long time.
These instances will need more aggressive cleaning.
For this you will use the CleanClicker
with an easy Wet to Dry process.
The additional cleaners needed
are Sticklers Fiber Optic Cleaning Fluid
and Sticklers CleanWipes.
For Wet to Dry cleaning,
never apply the cleaning fluid
directly to the CleanClicker tip.
It's harder to control how much fluid is applied,
and it could over saturate the tool.
The automatic metering dispensed by Sticklers Cleaning Fluid
is key to an easy, successful, Wet to Dry process.
Pull one cleaning wipe to use, fold it in half,
and press once or twice
to apply a small amount of Cleaning Fluid to the wipe.
Less is more with this very effective fluid.
Press the CleanClicker onto the now wet wipe
so that you just moisten the extended tip.
Now you can clean the connectors inside the panel,
or replace the end cap to clean the jumper.
After this training,
you should feel comfortable cleaning the connectors
inside the adaptor as well as the cable assemblies,
along with the rare occasion
when you need to do a Wet to Dry cleaning.
Thank you for watching and remember to follow the mantra
of Inspect, Clean, Inspect.
Always clean both ends of the connector pair,
and follow all of your company's safety procedures
whenever handling fiber.
