The NAACP held a meeting at Little Rock AME Zion Church near uptown Charlotte, NC on the proposed school closings being recommended by Char-Meck School Board. A small crowd turn out that could not fill just one section of seating in the church. Members of the Nation of Islam, a Latino community representative were in attendence. Speakers included NAACP Chapter president Rev. Kojo Nantambu and NAACP State President Dr. William J. Barber II. Rev. Kojo Nantambu also those in attendance for donations to research the school closing issue and possible legal action against the school board. Reportedly CMS board members Joyce Waddell and Richard McElrath made small contributions to the NAACP's legal research fund and this is raising ethics and conflict of interest issues. The NAACP is alleging that the school closings are racially motivated and leading to re-segregation.
