Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs’ Weekly Update

TRANSCRIPT:

"It’s Friday. Time for another weekly update.

This week, I helped cut the ribbon at the grand reopening of the Hardin Valley Food City store. A big thank you to Food City, by the way, for donating a year’s supply of coffee to our senior centers. I attended the Knoxville Chamber’s Breakfast with the Governor event and helped cut the ribbon for the Knox Regional Health Science Education Center, a joint effort of Roane State Community College and TCAT Knoxville, spoke at Fall Prevention Awareness Day at the O’Connor Senior Center, and read to students at Berean Christian School for Constitution Day. I also participated in a ceremony at World’s Fair Park for National POW/MIA Recognition Day.

We are approaching the first round of public outreach for the Unified Development Ordinance.
Please join us at one of the open houses on September 23rd and 25th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, or for a virtual meeting at Noon on September 25th to get an update on the process, learn about proposed recommendations, and provide feedback.
More details about these events can be found at advanceknox.org, and on our Facebook page.

Tomorrow morning, I will be at Schulz Bräu to help kick off Oktoberfest, the largest Bavarian beer festival in East Tennessee—featuring authentic Munich beer and German food, live music, and traditional competitions. Festivities continue until October 12th. Please go to KnoxvilleOktoberest.com for all the details.

Speaking of things to do, check out the Local Chapter Author Series at the Burlington Branch Library, spotlighting local and regional authors. You can find more information at the Library’s website.

I wanted to share some pictures with you of the concrete being poured on the deck of the new bridge near the dam on Coward Mill Road. Great progress is being made on that project.

Finally, Operation Hero’s Hill still needs your help. In case you missed it, Operation Hero’s Hill will create a tiny home village for veterans having a tough time securing housing. The really cool part is the homes are being built by Knox County high school students under the guidance of industry experts. Please visit OperationsHerosHill.com to see how you can help.

Until next Friday, I hope everyone has a great week!"
