Описание к видео Butterbox Canyon:

Butterbox Canyon 13th March 2021
Address: Blue Mountains National Park, Mount Hay Rd, Blue Mountains Nat'l Park NSW 2787

Have you ever seen photographs on some holiday brochures of magnificent views and landscapes only to be greatly disappointed when you get there not to be able to find any of them?. Butterbox canyon will not disappoint as when you arrive there you are in the middle of it. It surrounds you and will quite simply take your breath away.
We kind of found this by place by accident as we had planned and were looking for a different track, however after a couple of false starts due to lack of signage we were just about to turn around and go home when we finally found a marker identifying the canyon and location. Most signage has been destroyed in last year’s bushfires and at this point have not been replaced. As we were planning a different track we did not have any topo maps with us so that was a mental note for packing on the next trip.
We followed the Mt Hay road out of Leura for a few km on the bitumen before hitting the dirt road which turned out to be badly rutted from all the recent rain. We followed this road for approximately 45mins and I was surprised to see just how many small cars we met on the way in as the condition of the road is pretty poor to say the least. The road runs straight through and ends right in the carpark which sits on the top of a plateau clearing. The view of the canyon is right there, below and all around, you don’t even need to get out of your vehicle. I parked our 4WD right in front of the new tourist sign which is the only one I have seen on this trip and we sat for a moment to take it all in. It was obviously new signage as everything for miles around was blackened, the fires had obviously decimated the entire area.
We hopped out grabbed a bag, my camera and some wet weather gear as the threat of rain was very present, and set off on the track. This area has it all, the canyon stretched out before us in the distance and away down in the valley below was a huge forest of green with a creek running through the middle. Strange to see this as where we were on the top was black, thousands of wattle trees looking like dead soldiers appeared frozen in their crispy positions and littered the landscape.
There was also an ocean of pink flannel flowers which was a pleasant surprise as it is considered a freak of nature due to the unusual conditions required for their presence. A large bushfire followed by lots of rainfall is required for their birth, a scene not witnessed since the early 1950,s which meant a couple of generations have never had this privilege.
And then the scenery itself is simply specular. No drones required here. The view itself is majestic as the canyon sits just below eye level on the track in and opens up as you progress along the way.
We passed a group of young canyoners coming in the opposite direction with the water still dripping from their gear. They all appeared jolly and excited from their recent adventure in the canyon.
We choose the hike around Butterbox point instead of the canyon as I was still recovering from my recent surgery and Sharon had not walked on bush tracks for a long time. The walk itself took approximately 1 hour which we took at a very leisurely pace.
This would have to be one of the most pleasant days I have had as it was unexpected to find something of this magnitude and vastness. I would put this place up with Grand Canyon and the likes for it sheer and immense size and beauty. I can highly recommend this walk to all as it is reasonably accessible and not difficult to complete.
