Church isn’t just for Sundays. Have your faith transformed with The Potter’s House of Fort Worth, Texas as they learn about Transformative Belief on Wednesday Night Bible Study. This particular night, Campus Pastor Patrick Winfield teaches about “Expanded Belief – Expanded Life,” leading the church through the “anatomy of belief.”

The number one thing keeping us from realizing the promises of God is our level of belief. Pastor Winfield asks, “Can you remember a time when your faith and your belief contradicted one another?” Belief is our mindset. Faith is our action based on (or despite) our belief.

When a father came to Jesus with his possessed son, he said, “I believe; help my unbelief.” Jesus healed his son regardless of the doubt in the father’s heart because his faith (his actions) proved he knew Jesus was able. He came to Jesus despite any fear. His faith outweighed his doubt and moved him.

Pastor Winfield explains that, in the Bible, faith and belief are two different concepts. You can believe but not have faith. Faith is evident by doing. In the Hebrew, the feminine form of faith means firmness, being firm in one’s actions, so faith goes beyond belief in God and acts based on or because of that belief.

Pastor Winfield says, “When God speaks, His word is activated, and the only thing that ‘stops its momentum’ is our lack of faith (action). Peter showed faith in Jesus when he stepped on the stormy water, but when he stopped and looked down, he began to sink. It is vital that we keep the faith and keep moving towards Jesus despite our internal or external circumstances or feelings.”

Faith transcends human reason. It is supernatural and spiritually discerned. Human reason needs visual evidence, but faith is “the evidence of things not seen.” Faith proves our convictions, and without it, “it is impossible to please God.” God rewards those who “diligently seek Him” (demonstrate active faith).

Pastor Winfield encourages the church to: “Expand your belief to God. Don’t shrink God to your belief.” Often, we size God down to our own human understanding, forgetting that with God “all things are possible.” He then gives three essential points on transformative belief:

1) Your belief forms and develops your faith and, ultimately, your life. If you never increase your faith, you’ll never increase your level of life.
2) Faith in God requires belief in God. (Belief implies stability and stability supports action (faith)).
3) Faith requires belief. In the Hebrew, the added letters that make up the word faith means to connect, reveal or manifest.

Faith will transform your life. It will raise you up and increase your upward mobility. Hebrews 11 is full of other examples of believers whose lives were transformed by active faith. One of the best examples is Enoch, who did not see death, but because of his faith, was taken up into heaven. Be firm in your belief and exercise your faith. God will bless you.
