How to make realistic model trees

Would you like to make realistic trees for your layout, but don’t know where to start or how to do it. I am often asked how I make the trees for the Burrawon Branch. This video outlines the key steps in the procedure I use to make trees that are suitable for anywhere on the layout but, particularly, the middle ground and foreground. Briefly, commonly available materials are used in an easy process that can produce realistic results, in a short time and at minimal cost. The key to maximising realism is observation of real trees in the area being modelled, especially bark colour and texture, trunk and branch arrangement, and the foliage canopy and colour.
