This winter backpacking trip took us to the Quehanna Trail in Pennsylvania, starting at Parker Dam State Park and hiking counterclockwise to a quiet creek-side campsite. With light snowfall, winter conditions, and overnight temperatures dropping to around 15°F, it was a classic cold-weather overnight.

We covered roughly six miles, set up camp by the stream, and spent the evening around a campfire as snow fell through the trees. Winter backpacking in Pennsylvania doesn’t always mean deep snow, but cold nights, solitude, and simple camp routines make trips like this incredibly rewarding.

This trip focuses on the experience of winter backpacking — hiking in cold temperatures, setting up camp in winter conditions, enjoying good food, and spending time outdoors when most people stay home.
