I just showed my true colors; the Journalism Glass is Half Full, to my contemporaries who say this industry is dying.

Are numbers down? Yes.
Are eyeballs less? Yes.
Is Trust at an all time low? You Betcha?

But dying?

I say no.

The argument is people get their news on line?

While that's true, my retort is FROM WHOM?

WHO IS THAT GUY ON FACEBOOK SAYING THERE'S A GAS LEAK ON ELM STREET?

WHO IS THAT GAL ON TWITTER (X) WHO SAYS THE MAYOR IS DEAD?

WHO IS THAT REPORTER ON NEXTDOOR DOT COM WHO SAYS THE CAR CHASE ENDED IN A DEATH?

If you get on the internet you better ask WHO IS SAYING WHAT? DO I TRUST THIS SOURCE? HOW DO I KNOW THIS? SHOULD I VERIFY THIS INFORMATION?

Sadly our public is easy to fool. Sadly, people go on the internet and take whatever they see as fact.

There may be problems in TV News but I work my ass off to be correct and honest and transparent. I went to school to study this. I paid my dues at a 1000 crime scenes and court cases and perp walk downs and interviews with crying mommas.

I am trustworthy.

My viewers don't need to doubt my facts because I did the work for them.

Am I fallible? Yes. I'm human. Will I own up to it and correct my mistakes?

Hell yes.

Will the guy on Facebook, Twitter? do the same??????

NO.

So is the industry dying?

NO.

Is the industry changing?

Yes.

I am looking for the next wave of bad ass kick ass wanna change the world reporters to emerge.

And I am proud to pass on the torch to them.
