Thaipushan is a Hindu festival celebrated every year in several countries.
The most popular takes place in Kuala Lumpur.
People make wishes during the year to the god Murugan, son of Shiva and Parvati. If they wishes are granted pilgrims will come to the Murugan’s temple inside the Batu Caves to make offers to the god. Often they carry a bowl of milk on their head. Many of them make sacrifices carrying heavy metal structures on their shoulders or they piercing their face or toungue. Some of them have hooks on their back holding fruit or pulling carts.
