This talk invites the audience to reimagine barter systems using the power of blockchain technology. Bartering is an ancient practice and reviving this practice empowers as individuals and creates a globally connected society. Prior barriers to bartering effectively and efficiently can now be broken down by using blockchain technology. Bartering on blockchain is transformative – it has the ability to revolutionize how we think about money, banking and the economy. It also has the potential to shift the existing power structures from large institutions to individuals. In today’s fast-paced world where the threat of employment upheaval from AI and technology looms large, an alternative economy using blockchain-barter may well be the one credible option for large segments of the population. As a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with several years of experience in financial systems and reporting, Poornima has built a deep appreciation for the impact of emerging technologies on our professional and personal lives. Among other projects, she is currently working on a start-up that leverages blockchain technology to create a digital marketplace. She firmly believes that many of the emerging trends, and blockchain in particular, will have a democratizing impact on society.
