Today we start with a special goodbye to an incredible and prolific composer, Ennio Morricone. He died July 6 2020 at the age of 91 and scored over 400 movies and TV series over the course of his career, leaving behind an impressive legacy.
His score to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) is considered one of the most influential soundtracks in history & was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. His filmography includes over 70 award-winning films, all Sergio Leone's films since A Fistful of Dollars, all Giuseppe Tornatore's films since Cinema Paradiso, The Battle of Algiers, Dario Argento's Animal Trilogy, 1900, Exorcist II, Days of Heaven, the comedy trilogy La Cage aux Folles, Le Professionnel, as well as The Thing, Once Upon a Time in America, The Mission, The Untouchables, Mission to Mars, Bugsy, Disclosure, In the Line of Fire, Bulworth, Ripley's Game and The Hateful Eight. Morricone is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential film composers of all time. He was nominated for 5 Academy Awards before receiving an honourary Oscar in 2007. He went on to win a competitive Oscar in 2016 for his score of The Hateful Eight.
John Williams is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. Regarded by many as the greatest film composer of all time, he has composed some of the most popular, recognizable & critically acclaimed film scores in cinematic history in a career spanning over 6 decades. Williams has won 25 Grammy Awards, 7 British Academy Film Awards, 5 Oscars & 4 Golden Globes. With 52 Academy Award nominations, he is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney. The American Film Institute selected Williams's score to 1977's Star Wars as the greatest film score of all time. The Library of Congress also entered the Star Wars soundtrack into the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". He also scored Schindler's List, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, the first 2 Home Alone films, the first 2 Jaws films, the first 2 Jurassic Park films, Hook, and the first 3 Harry Potter films.
