How Did Yazid Die? | The Story of Yazid’s Death | After Karbala | Islamic Stories

Yazid bin Muawiyah was nominated as the caliph of the Muslims in 676 AD by his father Muawiyah. Many companions of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, rejected him as their ruler, including Hussain ibn Ali, Abdur Rahman ibn Abu Bakr, and Abd Allah ibn Zubair.

When Hussain ibn Ali left for Kufa in Iraq to lead a revolt against the Umayyads, he was killed along with his family by Yazid’s forces in the Battle of Karbala.

The people of Medina also rebelled against Yazid. In response, Yazid sent an army to suppress their rebellion. The army defeated the people of Medina in the Battle of Harra in 683 AD, and the city was brutally sacked. The Syrian army also attacked Mecca.

Yazid is considered an illegitimate ruler and a tyrant by many Muslims because of his hereditary succession over the Muslim community.

Yazid died in 683 AD, which corresponds to the year 64 after Hijra.
