Hiking Chaparrosa Peak: The Mojave Desert, Pioneertown Mountains Preserve, Pioneertown, CA.

As summer fast approaches, this represents my one last chance to get to the desert before the seasonal heat kicks in. Pioneertown Mountain Preserve is a good nearby option for Joshua Tree National Park visitors who want to escape the crowds. The area is NW of the park and lightly visited. Aside from a chance to climb a desert peak, the hike is also enhanced with the addition of Pipes Canyon. The canyon is very lush, especially when compared to typical desert canyons. The experience wouldn't be complete without completing the loop!
