Welcome to the oldest version of Spooky’s! As we all know, Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion used to be called “Spooky’s House of Jumpscares”. But most of us don’t know that the game has gone through A LOT more changes ever since its first official release on November 1, 2014. The game was actually first published one week prior to that, but November 1, 2014 is still technically the day the game was born. So today, we are taking a look at the birth of this legendary game!

Since Spooky’s was built in phases, the game took nearly 9 months until it was finished with all 1000 rooms and a true ending. The finished version was the version that was first released on Steam in July 2015. But for this version here, the game only had content up to Room 250. After that, the game was pretty much endless with no more save rooms, no new specimens, and just randomized chases. Only Specimens 1-5 and 9 existed in the game during its first release.

Here is a list of the 30 most notable differences that are in this version compared to the later or current versions:

1. The menu screens were different. The title screen music was distinctly different from what it is now.
2. The room number counter was in the top-left corner.
3. There were no health or stamina bars. Health was displayed in digits along with stamina and were in different locations on the screen.
4. The game’s FOV was noticeably much smaller.
5. The player’s walking/sprinting sound effects were unrealistic and just “vmm vmm vmm” sounds.
6. Ambience tracks would change much more frequently.
7. Many sound effects in the game, including Specimen 1 jumpscare sounds and certain door sounds, were at a much higher volume.
8. Flame torches on the walls were also very undetailed.
9. The collision detection was extremely sensitive, so it was very easy to get stuck on walls and corners, especially in abyss rooms.
10. The only Specimen 1 jumpscare sounds that existed at the time were the louder sounds. The quieter ones were added in later versions.
11. There were only a few different Specimen 1 cardboard cutouts variants that could spawn. More were added in later versions.
12. Specimen 1’s jumpscare sounds would carry on into the next room. This wasn’t changed until a much later version well after the game was released on Steam.
13. Only 5 ambience tracks existed in the game at the time. The other 7 were added in later versions.
14. Specimen chase themes would play on top of ambience tracks.
15. Specimens APPEAR to be moving at a slightly slower speed, but this may just be because of the smaller FOV.
16. All specimens could attack through door/room transitions.
17. Specimen respawns could happen anytime, unlike in the current versions where there are a minimum of 20 rooms in between chases.
18. Elevator/save rooms looked very different.
19. Specimen 3’s chase sequence appears to have lasted much longer than it does today.
20. Abyss rooms were a bit more frequent to appear. This was toned down later in later versions.
21. One of the notes in Specimen 4’s school area (Room 165) was on a table furthest away from the door. This note was moved to the table closest to the door since players would miss this note (including myself).
22. Specimen 4 did not have a chase theme in the very early versions. “Breakfast Was Too Early” was added later on but was then replaced with “Breakfast Was Too Late” when the game was finished and first released on Steam.
23. There was one particular ambient sound effect that would play occasionally, but no longer plays in the game.
24. Specimen 5’s introduction room (Room 210) did not contain many areas that exist today. Much of it was added in later versions.
25. Specimen 5’s walking speed was slower, and her walking animation was very different.
26. Specimen 5’s wall distortions did not exist yet. Instead, the chase contained a very heavy fog overlay which made it extremely difficult to see at times.
27. At random intervals, Specimen 5 would cause the player to not be able to move briefly and even slow down the player’s speed.
28. The painting of Spooky in Room 250 was different.
29. Specimens 6-13 (excluding 9) did not exist yet.
30. If the player made it past Room 1000, the game would just keep counting rooms and continue generating random layouts and chase sequences forever.

(Keep in mind that even though this is V1.5, it's still known as the "official release" version. Version 1 was released one week earlier, but it wasn't recognized by the public and isn't anywhere to be found. Plus, the only difference between these two versions is the fact that V1 didn't have subtitles for Spooky's dialogue.)
