Justice Department Says It May Take “A Few More Weeks” to Release All Epstein Files

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced it will likely need several more weeks to complete the public release of files related to the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking investigation, pushing back from the December 19 deadline set by Congress under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

The announcement came after the DOJ and federal agencies uncovered more than one million additional documents potentially connected to the case, meaning lawyers and staff must review, redact, and prepare them before they can be published online.

The new tranche of material was provided by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York and the FBI, officials said, highlighting that the sheer scale of the records — now totaling several million pages — has slowed the process. The department emphasized it is working “around the clock” to meet legal requirements while protecting the identities of victims and complying with court orders.

Under the transparency law passed last month, most of the materials from the federal Epstein investigation are supposed to be made public, but certain information — especially identifying data about victims — must be redacted before release. This necessity, combined with the unexpected volume of documents, has extended the timeline.
