In this video I talk through a fully annotated version of Act 5 Scenes 2 and 3 from Macbeth. This is the beginning o f the war against Macbeth and these two scenes offer alternating views from Malcolm and Macbeth's sides respectively. Firstly we see Malcolm and the Thanes/Lords that are loyal to his discussing Macbeth and showing their disdain for him as king. We then switch to Macbeth's castle, in which Macbeth is preparing for the oncoming invasion. He prepares by putting on his armour and reciting the prophecies which have instilled overconfidence in him. Finally, he is confronted by the Doctor, who previously watched Lady Macbeth sleepwalk. Macbeth implores him to cure Lady Macbeth and the Doctor equivocates to cover up the fact that he feels there is very little he can do for her. These scenes explore the cycles of violence within the play and establish the setting for the final confrontation.
