this song is about trying to escape from a feeling of heartbreak in the aftermath of a breakup. it’s being out with your friends and trying to convince yourself that you can have a good time, despite feeling drained from emotional pain. you get dressed up, wear something to make you feel new, and try to make yourself feel how your ex should have made you feel… but, even as you try to take your mind off the past, it finds a way to present itself and knock you off course. even if you know the person you love is complete poison for you, there’s no masking a broken heart.
