California Vehicle Code 4462.5 VC is the law that makes it a crime to show a police officer vehicle registration documents for a different car, or to display license plates on your vehicle that were meant for a different car.

Someone who is charged with Vehicle Code 4462.5 VC faces a misdemeanor with up to 6 months in jail if convicted. However there are many defenses to this crime. You may not have even been aware that the license plates or registration were the wrong ones. Or maybe you didn't even know it was a crime. Or perhaps the police violated your rights when they pulled you over or searched your vehicle.
