Yes, this is science fiction - but it's nonetheless a very dark story. The story's ultimate monsters, The Morlocks, are very much the kind of subterranean goblin-creature that you can find at the darker end of many a genre - they're rather similar to Tolkien's Orcs, for example, and you might argue they're not unlike Grendel in Beowulf... Anyway, Science Fiction and Horror are not mutually exclusive and so sometimes sci-fi will pop up on this channel.

This particular adaptation was broadcast in the rather classy Drama on 3 slot, and is pretty loyal to the book - to the extent that it lacks one or two of the more romantic touches people may remember from the Rod Taylor film. Nonetheless, it's good fun...
