I first read this as the age of 8 and was delighted to find it so many years later. It still reads well and stands a a masterpiece of the grandmaster of sci-fi. Its optimistic can-do attitiude shows a future where humanity is spreading throughout the solar system and where a family from the lunar colon can by an old atmic powered rocket and go on adventures. Favorite scenes include the family pet fuzzy britches (a martian flat cat) intereacting with the father/captain in zero-gee travelling from the mars colony to the asteroid belt. This book like so many of his young adult fiction is an utter joy to read and although the tech is slightly out of kilter with the way it has actually developed eg computers dont use tape spools any more and of course you cant imagine atomic rockets being available to anybody with the funds (shame cos I wanted one ever since I read this book back in the eighties).
