Here is one of our many short stories for kids from the series - Appu, The Yogic Elephant. Neena takes Appu on her Chinese New year trip in this Chinese New Year story. It is a crowded event and Neena's parents fear that they might lose their daughter. Tiger learns that Xinnian Kualie means Happy New Year in Chinese. They learn that the red envelopes contain money given by parents to their kids. A fisherman brings in loads of fishes and gifts one to Tiger. He tells that the fish is a sign of good luck. They pay a visit to the Temple fair where they find everything in red. In the gala event, Appu uses his yogic powers and finds that something is not right. Neena and Appu spot a monkey-like creature on the roof and Appu senses that he's out there for mischief. The monkey introduces himself as the Monkey King and turns the puppet dragon into a real one.

Everyone flees away as the fire-breathing dragon is on the lose. Neena's parents take them to safety and Neena urges Appu to do something. Appu blocks the dragon from inflicting any damage. Neena screams out to Appu to use Red color and calls out Tiger for help. People come out and drive the dragon back to its puppet form using the color red. They go on to enjoy the festival after that.
