Can You Deduce The Chess Position?

** TODAY'S PUZZLE **

Yesterday we featured on the most amazing sudokus we've ever seen (Dragonsnake by Agent) and today we get to do it all again. This is an extraordinary hybrid puzzle of sudoku and chess where the solver's task is to deduce the current state of a chess game and, in doing so, solve the sudoku. It's by Christian König and it's called Ein Echtes Schachsudoku. [You will need to know the rules of chess to solve this puzzle!]

Rules:
Right now we are in the middle of a game of chess. There have been some moves made by standard chess rules, but neither a capture nor a castling have yet taken place. Also, every piece has been moved at most once. Every piece carries a digit from 1 to 8 as shown in the initial grid - this digit must appear in the current cell of the piece in the game we're part way through. In the current game position, the whole grid can be filled with digits from 1 to 8, such that every digit appears in every row, column and box exactly once! Can you discover the current chess position and solve the sudoku?
