people often ask me why, why the weird stretchies, why the weird balance things, why all the big toe mobility, and single leg squats and whyyyyyy can't we just do regular asana Carling 😂

this is why.

because regular yoga asana is lovely, and it's a perfect discipline as it is, an encapsulated tradition that also isn't designed to address some of the big needs that come with with the physical demands of being a person. of aging. of heath span. of injury mitigation (we can't prevent everything but we can be prepared and be resilient)

and because my biggest frustration with yoga is the dogmatic approach that has led many people to think that it's all they need.

it's lovely, and will make your life better, it will make you a better person - AND there are other movement specific components that your clients and students and parents and partners need. that you need.

so l try to sneak them in like a little frozen spinach

in your smoothie, we all need the veggies and the dessert. i tweak things here and there because i know life is life and you can't spend all your time micro managing your movement, strength, and stability, and if you already love the practice or have the discipline to be moving your body regularly then you're way ahead of the game and THATS HUGE

so this is just some context, some of the why behind a lot of what I teach and how i teach it. I know it's a long one, but it's worth letting have a permanent place here for the people who want to dig in and who desperately need the WHY (like me 🤓 ) then it's worth the full 3 minutes.
