クラウドファンディング挑戦中 ゴリラのおうち/Crowdfunding challenge underway for the Primate World redevelopment project.

今回のリニューアルでは、現在チンパンジー達が暮らしている類人猿舎の建て替えを予定しています。新しい施設では、野生のチンパンジーの生態と、これまでチンパンジーを飼育して得た知見を活かした施設になる予定です。新しい施設のキーワードとして、「天井、部屋、橋」の3つを挙げます！

まず、天井についてです。
現在の類人猿舎のグラウンドには、天井がありません。チンパンジー達はとても運動能力が高く、グラウンドに高い場所を作りすぎると脱走してしまう可能性があります。そのため、どうしてもグラウンドの中にチンパンジー達が利用できない空間が生まれてしまいます。新しい施設には天井があることによって、1日の半分以上を樹上で過ごすチンパンジーの利用できる空間が広くなります。

次に、部屋についてです。
新しい施設では、グラウンドと室内に多くの部屋を作る予定です。部屋の数が多いことによって、チンパンジーの社会に適した飼育を行うことができます。また、怪我や病気、高齢などで分離して飼育することもでき、動物福祉が向上します。

最後に、橋（ブリッジ）についてです。
新しい施設とゴリラのおうちに橋を架け、動物たちが施設をまたいで移動できることを考えています。野生の動物たちは、餌を探すために一日の多くの時間を探索に費やします。閉鎖的な環境の動物園だと、フィーダー（採食時間を延ばすための道具）などを利用してもどうしても暇な時間が生まれ、同じグラウンドだと刺激が足りないことがあります。そのため、いつもと違う環境を経験することで動物たちに良い刺激をあたえることができます。

以上の3つのことに取り組もうとすると、どうしても費用が高くなってしまいます。動物たちが生き生きと暮らすことができるように、3つのキーワードを実現したいと思っています。皆様のご協力のほどよろしくお願いいたします。

The concept of Kyoto City Zoo is "a zoo that is close and fun. The word "close" has two meanings: the convenience of being close to the center of Kyoto City and the closeness of the relationship between animals and humans. The word "fun" means that the animals are "happy" and the visitors are "happy" to see them, while taking animal welfare into consideration. We aim to create such a zoo.

We have been engaged in a wide range of activities such as breeding endangered species, improving animal welfare, studying wild animals, and conducting educational activities so that the lives of animals will be preserved and shine brightly.

The reopening of the facility in 2015 was followed by a gradual improvement of the animals' environment, but due to the decision to give priority to the breeding of gorillas at that time, some areas including “Primate World” had to be upgraded at a different time from the overall renewal.

That is what this project is all about, the renovation of the "Ape House and Monkey Island".
Those facilities are aging , and it cannot ensure the well-being of animals. This is why we want to renovate the facilities.

In fact, we had compiled a basic plan for the redevelopment in 2019 and started design work in 2020, but the project was put on hold due to Kyoto City's administrative and fiscal reforms.

The Monkey Island and Ape House should have been completed in time for the zoo's 120th anniversary(2023), but this has not completed yet .

The redevelopment project we are undertaking with you through crowdfunding incorporates improvements based on the " Kyoto Zoo Concept 2020," which was newly formulated in 2020, and aims to improve the living environment for all zoo animals, including chimpanzees, gorillas and monkeys by enabling them to express their natural behavior in the wild. The facility will also include a research laboratory and educational space.
