Historic Auto Attractions is a museum located in Roscoe, Illinois, just north of Rockford. Covering over 80,000 square feet, the museum features a wide variety of historical vehicles, artifacts, and themed exhibits. While best known for its collection of automobiles, the museum also houses memorabilia relating to U.S. presidents, world leaders, entertainment figures, and historical events.

The museum contains the world’s largest collection of presidential and world leaders’ limousines, along with exhibits dedicated to the gangster era, Elvis Presley, Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, and other prominent figures. Additional displays include film and television cars such as the Batmobile, vehicles from Ghostbusters and Back to the Future, and unique cultural exhibits including an Old West display, Egyptian artifacts, a 9/11 Memorial, and a NASA space exploration exhibit.

History

The museum traces its origins to 1995, when its founder acquired a car once owned by Howard Hughes. Public interest in the vehicle inspired the idea of creating a larger collection.

In 2001, Historic Auto Attractions officially opened to the public after years of planning and construction.

By 2022, the museum had expanded significantly, opening a 50,000-square-foot East Wing to accommodate its growing collection. The expansion included new exhibits such as Miss Belvedere, additional presidential vehicles, and the Bigfoot Monster Truck, along with updated branding and a new logo.

Exhibits

The museum contains over 25 themed attractions. Notable exhibits include:

Presidential & Political History – Presidential limousines, John F. Kennedy artifacts, White House furniture, and the Hall of Presidents.

World Leaders & Historical Figures – Vehicles and memorabilia linked to world leaders such as Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev, and King George VI.

Entertainment & Pop Culture – Elvis Presley’s 1972 Lincoln Mark IV and personal belongings, TV and movie cars (Batman, Ghostbusters, Back to the Future), and other celebrity memorabilia.

Gangster Land – John Dillinger’s 1932 Studebaker, Bonnie and Clyde’s death hats, and other Prohibition-era artifacts.

Themed Cultural Displays – The Old West frontier collection, Egyptian movie props from the 1963 film Cleopatra, and a recreation of The Last Supper in the Hall of Christ.

Historical & Memorial Exhibits – A 9/11 Memorial room, a NASA space exploration exhibit, the War Room (military artifacts), and an Animal Kingdom section with displays of wildlife environments.

Automobile Collections – Land speed record cars, historic stock cars, the Illinois Stock Car Hall of Fame, and the Miss Belvedere 1957 Plymouth time capsule car.

Location & Operations

The museum is located at 13825 Metric Road, Roscoe, Illinois, and is open Tuesday through Sunday. In addition to its exhibits, Historic Auto Attractions offers event space, guided tours, and a museum shop.
