This talk was given at the "FIRST INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION FORMAN CHRISTIAN COLLEGE (A CHARTERED UNIVERSITY) CONFERENCE 2022".
There is a major concern that students doing major in mathematics or in a mathematics-based field should be prepared more effectively while taking mathematics courses. These courses can be at the undergraduate or postgraduate level. My talk focuses on the development of an instructional technique to effectively teach mathematics to students using multimedia technology leading to concept clarity and making it fun but not a boring subject. With the use of multimedia/technology time spent writing on the board will be saved in explaining the concepts and the time spent copying from the board will be spent in understanding the concept. Key points/working, where required, can be written/ done on board respectively. During or at the end of the semester students can put all the soft copies of notes on one pen drive instead of carrying bundles of hard copies. Effective use of technology showing detailed calculations, and proofs with the integration of animations, pictures, and cartoons into mathematics courses can enhance the conceptual understanding and interest in mathematics. This further removes the misunderstanding that "Mathematics is a dry subject". I will explain this instructional technique by discussing some mathematical examples, and also some non-mathematical topics. In addition, how technology was used for effective teaching during the COVID-19 lockdown will be discussed as well. This includes developing a YouTube channel for online teaching purposes which proved to be beneficial not only for Forman Christian College (A Chartered University) students but also for students from other universities. Evidence of the effectiveness of this teaching method is clearly seen in students’ feedback showing that concept clearing could be done in a better way by using innovative technology-based techniques.
