The rate at which the RBI lends money to commercial banks is called repo rate. It is an instrument of monetary policy. Whenever banks have any shortage of funds they can borrow from the RBI.
In this video we will learn about what is repo rate. As we know all the banks borrow money from RBI that is reserve Bank of India and the rate at which the RBI lends money is called Repo rate. Basically Repo Rate = Rate@RBI lends money. It is a virtual tool to manage inflation. Higher the repo rate higher is the interest. There are many ways in which it can affect us, for eg. EMIs can go up, people will start spending less, liquidity crunch which will lead to less inflation. Similarly if people send more, liquidity surplus and therefore inflation increase.
