Nationals Senate Leader Bridget McKenzie says Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe’s outburst has led to “additional security” being placed on the Senate.

Ms Thorpe has attempted to interrupt proceedings in the Senate by yelling through open doors.

This comes after Ms Thorpe was suspended from the Senate for the remainder of the week after a sensational paper-throwing rant.

“Senator Thorpe was suspended from the Senate for the remainder of yesterday and for all of today,” Ms McKenzie told Sky News Australia.

“She has been up and down the Press Gallery, right throughout parliament, seeking to cause more disruption, so there has had to be additional security guards positioned at all the entrances to the Senate.

“This is really concerning.”
