Trick Tutorial: Teach your dog to balance, flip and catch a treat on their nose.

Step 1: Teach them to balance the treat on their nose using a food lure and a treat to balance on their nose. Use lots of praise and food rewards for successful behavior. At first keep the treat their for short amounts of time and working your way up from there. Once they can easily balance the treat on their nose move on to step two.

Step 2: Your dog might already be good at this one! Toss a treat in the air and teach them to catch it. If they don’t catch the treat try to pick it up before they eat it and toss it again. Eventually they understand the game and will try even harder to catch the treat. If they catch the treat, reward them with extra treats and lots of praise!

Step 3: Start by balancing the treat on their nose, and then toss a treat to them to catch. If they don’t catch the treat it’s okay! If they do catch it then offer them extra praise and bonus rewards!

Step 4: balance the treat on their nose and pretend to toss them another treat. Once they see the toss motion they will try to catch the treat. If they don’t catch the treat, try to pick the treat up before they eat it and try again. Offer lots of praise! If they aren’t successful just got back to step 1 and 2 a few times to keep the game fun for them! You don’t want to discourage them so always end on a successful positive note with a trick they are good at!
