Fender Johnny Marr Jag vs Fender '65 RI Jazzmaster

This was recorded late last night after dinner and the obligatory Sunday night beers. I was experimenting with the sonic differences between my stock 2013 Johnny Marr Jaguar and 2015 US '65 RI Jazzmaster. I thought you might like to hear and see the differences too so I filmed it. Both guitars were taken for a very lazy ride through the clean and dirty channels of my 30W Class A George Evans Sonique 30A, with and without reverb and modulated delay (Eventide H9 in amp's FX loop).

The Jazzmaster has had two important mods: the addition of a Staytrem bridge and tremolo arm. Staytrem parts (by John Moore of the UK) also feature on the Johnny Marr Jag as stock. They're so good I swapped the Jazzmaster's standard Fender bridge and tremolo arm over to the Staytrem parts before I'd even tried the guitar through an amp. Yes, I'm aware of Mastery parts, I own two guitars that host their bridge and tremolo. The Mastery bridges have a different feel and tone, though (which some prefer), and I've had issues with them dropping height involuntarily. However, they're a darned side better than the original (Fender), but I still prefer the Staytrem.

Both guitars have their charms. The shorter scale Jag has a more percussive attack and a tad less sustain (hence its appeal to the surf crowd) while the Jazzmaster hangs on a little longer and has more sparkle at the bridge end and richness at the neck end. The American AVRI pickups in the Jazzmaster are great but I'll probably swap them out for Kinman Fatmasters which are noiseless, slightly hotter, and a little tamer in the top-end department. Expect that A/B demo later as well.
